Anne Marcellis of Sam Quilt Designs is a national award-winning quilter whose creative journey began in 2001, after many years of sewing clothing for herself and her children. What started with a first wall quilt—complete with mitered borders held together by super glue—quickly sparked a passion that has only grown stronger over time.

Today, Anne is a highly respected designer, teacher, judge, and speaker, known for her vibrant use of color and her encouraging teaching style. She has shared her work and expertise with quilters across numerous states, and her quilts have been featured in many quilting magazines. Anne has earned multiple People’s Choice and Best of Show awards, and two of her quilts were selected for the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Art Engagement Calendars in 2019 and 2023.

Renowned for her mastery of free-motion quilting on a domestic machine, Anne brings clarity, enthusiasm, and confidence-building instruction to every class she teaches. Her patterns are thoughtfully written with beginners in mind and include clear diagrams, detailed instructions, and techniques designed to make quilting approachable and enjoyable.

Anne’s designs have been published by the American Quilter’s Society, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting, various Shop Hop magazines, and several national quilting catalogs. A joyful innovator at heart, she loves finding new ways to simplify techniques while inspiring creativity in others. As a Christian, Anne credits Jesus for the talents and opportunities she has been given, and she shares her journey—with humor, heart, and plenty of practical tips—through her engaging presentations and workshops.
